ERINCLARE SCRUTTON - A CALL TO ADVENTUROUS LIVING
6 August - 26 August 2023
Our first solo exhibition with this uniquely talented artist
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
'I am interested in the idea of liminal space relating to a journey or a threshold, an
in-between place, having left the old and known, and as yet to have discovered
the new. Since Natalie invited me to have this exhibition, I have endeavoured to
follow a path of ‘going without knowing’ seeking signs and symbols that would
guide me to this yet unknown place. As an art traveller I gladly embrace that this
is a journey worth making, setting off bravely, blindly and faithfully with an open
heart.
Referring to the exhibition’s title, the notion of ‘adventurous living’ is still vibrating
in my body from the amazing trip I was gifted - a month’s solo art retreat on South
Uist. After a period of preparation, my goal has been to push my skills and open
myself to discover something hitherto unknown. The work has become the map
of the terrain I have discovered.
I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did and I’d genuinely welcome any
comments and feedback about how you feel about the exhibition.'
Erinclare's creative journey began with an HND in ceramics at Harrogate and a Degree and PostGrad at GSA (1985-91). After art school, she took a different creative path and had a rich 30 year career as a drummer/percussionist. During a month-long trip and painting course in St Ives she was inspired to return to artmaking and completed a very memorable 2 year course in Contemporary Art Practice at City College Glasgow in 2022.
